Swimmng lessons

Owen continues to go to swimming lessons. This summer, the lessons are held in an outdoor pool in some generous person's back yard. Here's Owen yesterday at lessons:

Owen goes to SD

Owen took a trip to SD to visit the grandparents so Kelly and I could go on a business trip (aka motorcycle trip to Yellowstone). Eye witness accounts suggest he had a great time. Pictures seem to confirm that.

Sunday on the John Deere

I'm hoping my lawn mowing duties will end this summer, but some have said Owen will need to be a little older to actually take over. Here's a couple pictures from my first training session with him.

Saturday in Moab

On Saturday, Scott and RaNae flew us down to Moab for a day of jeeping, with a little car show thrown in. We left Bountiful about 9am and were jeeping by 10:30. Here's the jeep:

After seeing Blond Dog and Zelda at the car show, we drove up to Hurrah Pass, which is where this shot was taken:

Then we headed over to the other side of the river and took the Potash Road over to Shafer trail and up to Dead Horse Point. The road was good, but steep and narrow:

It led to over looks like this:

Bouncing around in a Jeep all day, but still smiling. What a trooper.

Thanks to Auntie 'Nae and Uncle Scott for the pictures, but especially for the flight down and awesome, awesome day.

Owen discovers Gelato

One of our favorite things about Italy was the availability of gelato on every corner. Owen learned to like it very quickly. If he saw somebody walking down the street with a cone, he'd start grunting and letting us know he was ready for more gelato...hey, we couldn't disappoint the kid, right?

Owen's first overseas trip

Kelly, Owen, Anne and I flew to Italy in April. Owen was a real trooper on all the flights, train rides and taxi rides we put him through. Here's Owen in the train station in Rome:

Owen rides his first calf

While we were in South Dakota in early April, Grandpa Tim helped Owen onto the back of his first calf. From what I heard, Owen didn't make the whistle, but he spurred hard. Somebody's going to have to buy the kid some gloves though, pink mittens aren't allowed in the PBR.

Casper, WY

Owen made another trip across Wyoming to the vacation hotspot of western SD. Blizzard conditions and closed roads in WY kept us in UT for a couple extra days, but when we made it to Casper, we went swimming in the hotel pool.

Swimming lessons today

Owen seemed to really enjoy the pool today. Previous visits he just seemed to tolerate it. But he splashed around and really did a good job today. One of the exercises is to grab the edge of the pool after coming up from underwater. Today was the first time he really seemed to get the concept, and Kelly got a picture of it.

This picture is pretty dark, but if you can make out the look on his face, you'll see a pretty happy kid.

Corner Canyon

Kelly and I took Owen for his first hike up Corner Canyon. Of course Jett and Scout tagged along.

Another first in Owen's life...

....stairs. Owen climbed up his first stair step on Saturday, March 17. Seems cute now, but other people say we'll regret it. What could they possibly mean?

Last swimming lesson of the session

Owen had his last swimming lesson of the session on Wednesday. Seems to be doing pretty well. Here's what he looks like under water.

Another first in Owen's life...

....vomit. We were pretty happy to have not dealt with baby vomit yet, but we can't say that anymore. Jen Gaskill came to visit Thursday night, and Owen promptly threw up all other Kelly. We subsequently cleaned up three big carpet spots and washed three loads of laundry from midnight to 6am. Lesson for the new parents? Don't give a vomiting baby a little formula because he must ok now and hungry. Don't give a vomiting baby as much pedialyte as he can drink when he must be ok now. Doctors aren't really impressed with a couple of diarrhea diapers and a little vomit.

I didn't take any pictures of the vomiting (I know, big surprise) but here's a couple of the important tools used overnight. And one of the boy feeling better.

A sad first in Owen's life

Randy Topolovec left us last week after battling cancer. Kelly, Owen and I attended the funeral to celebrate Randy's life with numerous friends. Sure a sad first in Owen's life, Randy left us way too soon. That's a good friend and co-worker, Regan holding Owen.

And here's a picture of Randy holding Owen back in October.

Swimming lessons

Swimming lessons went pretty well last week. It was Dad and Owen in the pool - and there was only a little fussing when being passed off to the instructor. Owen even took a little ride down the slide. Here's a couple before and after shots. The instructor even took an underwater shot. When we get that, I'll post it here.

Owen applies for his passport

It was snowing like a mother in Salt Lake this morning, but we made the drive to the Salt Lake County building so Owen could apply for his passport. Anne also applied for her passport.

The ladies at the passport office thought Owen was the cutest kid they'd seen in a long time. I suppose they say that all the time. Also, they haven't seen him spit spaghetti sauce all over a recently cleaned dress shirt. But that's a whole 'nother story.
